DESCRIPTION:

It is a full day excursion, embWe leave at 10:00 AM, we return at 04:00 PM.

After traveling 88 kilometers along the uniform plateau, it is suddenly striking to see silhouetted on the horizon the upright figure of the red brick lighthouse on an enormous rocky mass.  Two hills that rise to its right complete a wild picture in that portion of the sea coast. Since the time of Hernando de Magallanes, this area has been known as Cabo Blanco and there are thousands of stories from sailors that mention it.

The access isthmus to the cape gives rise to the formation of two coves. The southern cove traces a wide curve about two kilometers long with an excellent sand plaza mixed in some sectors with fine gravel; a small slope offers shelter against the north winds.

The north cove, which in the cape sector is approximately one kilometer long, is more open and, therefore, less sheltered; Its beach is made up of gravel arranged in two successive small terraces, the lower one having thicker edges than the upper one.

The vegetation is typically xerophilous of the Patagonian steppe and only a few tamarisks grow near the cape itself without, however, modifying the plant landscape of the whole.

Among the rocks that make up the southeastern sector of the cape there are excellent viewpoints, but the greatest panoramic point is the northeastern hill, which is ascended by a long concrete staircase that leads to the foot of the lighthouse. Both from the same and from the nose itself, you have a wide view of the entire cape.

Opposite the Cabo Blanco Lighthouse, emerges a set of steep rocky islets where one of the surviving populations of the Argentine Sea Lion of two hairs congregates. The attractiveness of the area is completed by the presence of several nests of Grey, Black-necked and   Imperial Cormorants..."

Faro Cabo Blanco
SALINA CABO BLANCO

In short, the Cabo Blanco Intangible Nature Reserve has stood out since 1937 for its landscape value, for its interesting marine birds and for being one of the largest colonies of the Fur Seal on the entire Patagonian coast.

In addition to its natural attractions, the reserve keeps the vestiges of a population from the early 20th century related to the exploitation of the Cabo Blanco salt flats. In addition to the presence of the lighthouse, the former post office-telegraph and the cemetery.

SALINA CABO BLANCO

The exploitation began in the year 1902

A few kilometers from Cabo Blanco there is a large salt mine, where you can see the remains of an old mining operation and it can be deduced that it was relatively important due to the infrastructure installed at that time.

CEMETERY

All the tombs date from before the construction of the Lighthouse.

POST OFFICE

The Post and Telegraph office was inaugurated on January 2, 1902 under the name "Puerto Cabo Blanco",
